Dan is a graduate of the University of Missouri in St. Louis. He and his wife Bernice own Cedar Spring Ranch Horse & Cattle Co. in Missouri. Dan keeps himself busy producing a new book every year in addition to being a Rancher, Horseman, Musician and Cowboy Humorist.
Dan admits that it has been his wife Bernice who has given him the inspiration and desire to do what seemed to be the impossible. In 1971 they bought a 180 acre wooded tract of land and over the years turned it into a working horse and cattle ranch. They were forced to retire from the cattle business due to the 2012 drought. However, they still have eleven Missouri Fox Trotter horses of which many are of championship pedigree.
Clearing about 70 acres of land for pasture, pounding in over 2,000 metal fence posts and barb wiring around the pastures was no easy task yet Bernice was at Dan’s side every step of the way. Oh it was hard work all right. But they both had determination because they had a dream and they themselves made it come true.
Dan’s beautiful wife of 48 years was there physically and sometimes spiritually giving him the mental and physical strength to accomplish what was seemingly impossible.
Dan and Bernice have three wonderful children: Dan Jr., Billy, and Lisa, and they all have wonderful spouses. Among the three, there are four grandchildren: three girls and one boy. Dan and Bernice boast that their children have the same passion for their dreams and endeavors as they did.
The Good Lord has been at their side every step of the journey and they are thankful for their many blessings.
